The mechanical chronograph wristwatch designed to meet the needs of racing drivers since its launch in 1963. The Rolex Daytona model attracted huge global interest after Hollywood idol Paul Newman wore one.  An enthusiastic race car driver, actor Newman received the Daytona as a gift from his actress wife Joanne Woodward, who engraved the message “Drive Carefully, Me” on the back. Newman was photographed wearing the watch regularly over the next decade as he competed in many high-profile races, including a second-place finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Newman's Rolex went on to become the world's most expensive watch when it sold in auction for $17.8m in 2018.
